International Youth Day 2024

International Youth Day spotlights youth issues on a global scale and recognises young people as vital partners in today’s global society. It is a day to to celebrate and amplify the voices, actions, and initiatives of young people, promoting their meaningful, universal, and equitable engagement.

A decade after the United Nations celebrated its first Year of Youth in 1985, a global forum known as the United Nations General Assembly set up the World Programme of Action for Youth; this program outlined a set of policies to improve the lives of young people worldwide. Since 2000, the United Nations has celebrated International Youth Day on 12 August. It is a day to celebrate youth globally, children’s rights, and acknowledge young people’s challenges.

The theme for International Youth Day 2024 is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.” This theme highlights the key connection between digitalization and accelerating the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the crucial contributions of young people in this transformative process.
