The Dr Dakhina Mitra Scholarship 2025: Honouring a Legacy

We are honoured to launch The Dr Dakhina Mitra Scholarship in memory of Dr Dakhina Mitra, who worked in Social Policy and Research at the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare from 2018 until she sadly passed away in 2022.

Dr Dakhina Mitra

Dr. Dakhina Mitra dedicated her career to improving the lives of those facing hardship, with a particular focus on child rights and safety. She was passionate about amplifying children’s voices and ensuring they had a say in decisions affecting their lives. Her commitment to advocacy and policy reform allowed her to make meaningful changes for children in vulnerable situations.

Dr. Mitra cherished her role at the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare, where she contributed significantly to research and policy aimed at improving outcomes for raised in challenging environments.

The 2025 Dr Dakhina Mitra Scholarship

We’ve established the Dr Dakhina Mitra Scholarship to honour Dr. Mitra’s dedication to improving the lives of children and young people. This scholarship reflects her love for learning, research, and commitment to child safety and rights; it also celebrates her warmth, generosity, and passion for helping others.

Each year, the Centre will offer a $5,000 scholarship to a child and family services professional to support study or professional development aimed at enhancing outcomes for vulnerable children. The scholarship award can be used for study materials, tuition, or other related costs.

The scholarship fosters professional development, ensuring professionals have the tools and knowledge necessary to make a greater impact in the community.

The Scholarship is open to any individual working in the child and family services sector in Victoria, including individuals employed by a Centre Member Organisation whose work supports better outcomes for children, young people and their families.

How to Apply

Applications are open until December 31, 2024, and the winners will be announced in February 2025. If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to further your career, this scholarship could be the key to unlocking new opportunities.
