Planning is probably the most important NDIS stage.
The NDIS plan determines the total budget for disability supports, which supports will be funded, and how much freedom and flexibility the NDIS participant will have with their funding.
The effectiveness of every NDIS plan is based on how clearly the needs of the participant and their carer are communicated to the planner in the beginning. Child and family services workers can help participants and their carers to communicate their needs by:
- Helping the family complete a ‘Carer Statement’ that describes the issues which affect the sustainability of care for a child with a disability.
- Helping the family come up with the right kinds of NDIS goals to help get the best outcomes for the individual child with a disability
- Help prepare the family so that they have all the information they need at their planning meeting
