The 2024 Leaving a Legacy Award

Dr Joe Tucci, the former CEO of the Australian Childhood Foundation, has been honoured with 2024 Leaving a Legacy Award. This prestigious accolade was presented during the Victorian Protecting Children Awards, which celebrate individuals and teams demonstrating excellence in child protection and family services.

The award, accepted on behalf of his family by Australian Childhood Foundation CEO Janise Mitchell, was presented by the Centre’s CEO, Deb Tsorbaris, on September 3.

 

Dr Joe Tucci’s Pioneering Impact on Child Protection and Advocacy

Dr. Tucci, who passed away in March 2024 after a brief illness, was a registered psychologist and social worker with over 30 years of service in child protection. His work spanned from therapeutic support for children to pioneering research into child abuse and advocacy at the state and federal levels. A key achievement in his career was establishing the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse, where he served as its inaugural chairperson. His ground-breaking contributions to addressing child sexual abuse and harmful sexual behaviours have left an indelible mark on the sector.

As CEO of the Australian Childhood Foundation, Dr Tucci was internationally recognised for his leadership in trauma prevention and recovery models for children. His legacy continues to live on in the work being done to protect children’s rights.
