Ages and Stages of Development

Overview
This workshop provides participants with an opportunity to review the foundational knowledge of early child development and identify how common experiences such as family violence can impact child wellbeing. Participants will then explore how they can integrate a child focused, trauma informed approach into their own practice with young children, their parents/carers and families to support optimal wellbeing and development.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, you will:
- Have a greater understanding of Child Development, for children 0-5 years.
- Be able to idenify the impacts of trauma on children, their carers and on relationships (the efffects of trauma on attachment and bonding), including understanding the effects of family violence on young children and parents.
- Have a toolbox of strategies for supporting bonding/ attachment and healing for children and thier carers/parents. Strategies are aligned with a child focused & trauma informed approach and align with frameworks such as Best Interests Case Practice and MARAM. There is an emphasis on play, joy and connection – healing for young children occurs in the context of feeling safe in their relationships.
- Feel more confident in your ability to build positive, supportive relationships with parents/carers, help them build strong relationships & support the wellbeing, healing and optimal development for their children.
