First International Day of Play

Tuesday June 11

The UN General Assembly declares June 11 will be the world’s first International Day of Play.

International Day of Play is a time to celebrate the power of play and raise awareness about how central it is to every child’s development and wellbeing.

Play isn’t just fun, it is a universal language spoken by people of all ages, transcending national, cultural, and socio-economic boundaries. For children in particular, play helps build relationships, overcome trauma, develop resilience and problem-solving skills and take measured risks.

We celebrate International Day of Play and call attention to the need to ensure every child’s right to play is respected, protected and fulfilled, so they thrive and reach their potential.
