Victorian foster care agencies unite to address shortage of foster carers
The goal of the project is to achieve better outcomes and impact through whole-sector collaboration, cooperation and data collection. This takes the form of a branded carer attraction campaign, website and enquiry line and centralised Carer Management System (CMS). In addition, Fostering Connections provides opportunities for agencies to share resources to make the carer recruitment experience more efficient and the recruitment process more accessible for enquirers.

Victorian foster care agencies unite to address shortage of foster carers
Victorian foster carers play a vital role in giving vulnerable and at risk children safe and loving homes, helping to change their lives for the better. They are the cornerstone of the out of home system.
However, for the first time in the state’s history the number of foster carers has entered a steady decline and the demand for foster carers is continuing to grow. These trends are concerning.
DHHS have provided advice about a new initiative of the Victorian Government known as "Targeted Care Packages". Currently in Victoria around 500 children and young people who have been removed from the care of their parents due to abuse or neglect live in a form of care known as residential care. For some of these children, their needs would be better met in another form of care – such as foster or kinship care.
On Friday 27th February, Minister for Families and Children, Jenny Mikakos, chaired the first meeting of the Ministerial Advisory Committee for Children in Out-of-Home Care.
Its first task is to recommend strategies on how to recruit more foster carers and retain those already supporting children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
