The Unsaid Says a Lot

At The Centre, we support The Unsaid Says a Lot campaign launched by the Victorian government to raise awareness and cultivate understanding of the challenges faced by trans and gender-diverse Victorians. The campaign is an Australian first and marks a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and empathy within our communities.

Understanding the Impact

The campaign, introduced by Minister for Equality Harriet Shing, points to the daily challenges faced by trans and gender-diverse folks, highlighting the profound effects of exclusion, judgement, and discrimination.

93% of our communication is nonverbal – facial expressions, body language, and gestures. Often, what is unsaid is more powerful than what is said.

The Path to Allyship

Beyond raising awareness, The Unsaid Says a Lot campaign also empowers us with actionable steps towards becoming effective allies to LGBTIQA+ communities. The campaign’s suite of videos demonstrates positive behaviours and actions that promote inclusivity and support, encouraging us all to play an active role in creating a more inclusive society.

Addressing Realities and Building Support

Research underscores the urgent need for such initiatives, revealing more than three in four trans and gender-diverse individuals have faced unfair treatment due to their gender identity; this discrimination contributes to heightened rates of mental health challenges within LGBTIQA+ communities. By addressing these realities head-on, the campaign aims to mitigate stigma and create safer, more supportive environments for all.

Sharing Resources

As part of the campaign, a range of resources has been developed to educate and empower individuals to actively support LGBTIQA+ communities; these resources are tools for promoting understanding and implementing meaningful change.

A Collaborative Effort

The campaign was co-designed with Victorian trans and gender-diverse individuals. We commend Zielinski’s involvement, a distinguished Victorian-based director, actor, writer, producer, and transperson whose vision brings this initiative to life.

The Unsaid Says a Lot. So, What Are You Really Saying?

At The Centre, we strive for a Victoria free of discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people. All Victorian children and families deserve to move through the world without discrimination, regardless of how they identify.

We invite you to check out The Unsaid Says a Lot campaign and learn more about how you can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for trans and gender-diverse Victorians.
